Fr. Rocky Vaz, SJ, Principal 1983-87, was key person who brought together the Loyola old boys and formed the Loyola Alumni Association (LAA) in the 1980s. In 1988, he printed a folder describing the beginnings of the School and LAA, it's initial activities and founder members. A very interesting document.

The teaching staff of Loyola School was small when I entered its portals as Principal in 1953. 285 students were enrolled. Classes ranged from Std. I to Std. Xl. Among the teachers facing me at the assembly was the smiling face of a young man, Reynold D’Souza. His smile was noteworthy because of its omnipresence and because it carried a genuine interest in those whom he taught.

The death of Reynold C. D'Souza some years ago marked the physical disappearance of one of Jamshedpur's most enthralling citizens. Reams can be written about Mr. D'Souza's exertions and achievements as teacher, but the example he set all his life as a citizen and as a social being deserves equal attention. Generations of Jamshedpur students, which includes this writer and his two brothers, were privileged to attend his classes and learn from him the intricacies of the English language and, more important, those decencies of life which are gradually becoming a thing of the past.

The Diamond Jubillee Celebrations got off to a running start with the Cross Country Run. Next in the pipeline is a play by Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband. Two shows have been scheduled for September 22 & 23, 2006 at the Tata Audirorium, XLRI. Mr. B. Muthuraman, MD, Tata Steel, will be the Guest of Honour on 23 September, 2006.

Fr. Pius Fernandes, who was the Principal of Loyola from 1992-2002, has been awarded the National Teachers Award 2005. The list of awardees is prepared by the HRD Ministry and the awards are presented on Teachers' Day each year. Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5, the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the great philosopher, statesman and educationist who served as the President of India. The award is given to teachers selected from across the nation for their "contribution to the development of the country through education". Fr. Pius received the award from the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on September 5, 2006.
