The Diamond Jubillee Celebrations got off to a running start with the Cross Country Run. Next in the pipeline is a play by Oscar Wilde, An Ideal Husband. Two shows have been scheduled for September 22 & 23, 2006 at the Tata Audirorium, XLRI. Mr. B. Muthuraman, MD, Tata Steel, will be the Guest of Honour on 23 September, 2006.

Fr. Pius Fernandes, who was the Principal of Loyola from 1992-2002, has been awarded the National Teachers Award 2005. The list of awardees is prepared by the HRD Ministry and the awards are presented on Teachers' Day each year. Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5, the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the great philosopher, statesman and educationist who served as the President of India. The award is given to teachers selected from across the nation for their "contribution to the development of the country through education". Fr. Pius received the award from the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on September 5, 2006.

Congratulations on Loyola’s Golden Jubilee!

How good God has been to Loyola and its graduates!

My first class at Loyola was to seven students in the sometime bar-room of the old CNR Club. The year was 1951.

Look at Loyola today! And Loyola’s graduates in prestigious jobs all over India, Europe and America. We have much for which to thank God.

As I reminisce over the fifty glorious years of Loyola’s existence and growth, my heart fills with love, admiration and pride for the fertile soil which the school provides to the five-year olds, who enter its portals for the first time in Kindergarten, to leave as responsible human beings.

From classes in a bus and makeshift rooms in the Chotanagpur Club in 1947, Loyola now makes excellent facilities available to its students in impressive buildings.
