Loyola School completes 50 years in January 1997. It is significant that the Golden Jubilee of the School coincides with the Golden Jubilee of the freedom of our country. There is, therefore, just cause for jubilation that Loyola School, which started with just a few students in 1947, has now more than 2300 students on the rolls.

For those of us who were among the first students to join the School when it opened, we can look back with pride and satisfaction that we were the flag bearers of the name of the fledging institution. The growth of the School has been organic and the institution is now well known all over the country as a centre of excellence. It is due to the strong foundation laid and the dedication, vision and wisdom of the first Faculty.

Our thoughts naturally turn to the Reactor of the School, Rev. Fr. Carroll I. Fasy., S.J., and the second Principal, Fr. Jim McGinley, S.J. They were ably assisted by very young priests of the Society of Jesus Fathers Edgar Graham, James Keogh, E. Dineen, Frank McGauley, A. Roberts, E. McGrath, J.M. Kennedy, and G.A. Hess. Among the members of the Lay Staff whom I fondly remember were Mr. Khare, Mr. R.C. D’Souza, Mrs. M. Kirwan, Mr. R.S. Pandey and Mr. S.P. Sinha. To all of them we owe our ever-lasting gratitude.

Loyola School will continue to flourish and prosper in the years to come, and the students who emerge from the august portals, will also hold their heads high and proclaim that they are Loyoleans.
