Held on Saturday, 29th April 2006, at the Fasy Auditorium, Loyola School, Jamshedpur. Attended: 61 Members, 30 member spouses & 15 Invitees: teachers, volunteers and doctors. President, Fr. Augustine Vattamattam: Extended a warm welcome to all the attending members, their spouses and Invitees. He thanked all the senior teachers present in the meeting and extended a special welcome to Dr. Amit Chatterjee.
Patron, Dr. M. N. Bhatt:Thanked everyone, especially Dr. Amit Chatterjee, for coming for the meeting. Dr Bhat stressed that LAA has to concentrate and re-focus their vision on the ongoing activities like Saturday clinic, health camps, career counseling programme and community development programmes. - He complemented Dr. Dinesh Upadhyaya for leading a fine team of doctors & volunteers and doing a great job.
- He appreciated Pratim Banerjee for seeding the idea of the clinic sponsorship scheme which has evoked a very good response during the last 4 months. He expressed his happiness that a lot of positive initiative is coming from the Chapters.
- He appealed to all LAA members to be more creative and initiate new projects, mainly for the under-privileged.
Dr. Dinesh Upadhyaya thanked all the senior members of LAA, namely Mr. G. Sabapathy, Dr. M. N. Bhat and Dr. Amit Chatterjee. He thanked all members of the Executive Committee and the non-alumni doctors and staff, Mrs. Sumita Singh and Mrs. Narielwalla for their significant contribution towards the success of the clinic and camps. The attending members passed the minutes of last General Body Meeting held on 17th December 2005. Secretary's Report: - Saturday Free Clinic has been held uninterrupted every week. From May 2005 to April 2006, nearly 7,000 patients were examined by the LAA doctors, and were provided free medicines. A special thanks was extended to the team of doctors, pharmacists and volunteers.
- Medical Camps: Since May 2005 to April 2006 nearly 2,300 under-privileged patients, in seven Camps, held in neighboring areas of Jamshedpur, were given primary health care support, including free medicines.
- Hydrocele Camp: 16 Patients were operated upon at the Hydrocele Camp, held at the Centre for Family Initiatives, Dhatkidih, Jamshedpur, with the support of TMH.
- Community Development : LAA sponsored the visit of two groups of under-privileged school children to Jamshedpur - one group of 85 Students from Hazaribag in November 2005, and the other of 82 students from Jhilling (Purulia Dist) in January 2006.
- Vocational Training: Some primary studies have been made and the desire to forward the concept is very strong. Hopefully, some concrete shape would be given in the near future.
- Dr. Amit Chatterjee:
- Dr. Amit Chatterjee is recognized not only in India but abroad as well. Last year he was conferred the Fellowship of Imperial College, London.
- In the General Dialogue session of Tata Steel, where he was recognized for his achievements, Dr. Chatterjee made it a point to mention that he was also thankful to Loyola School for what he is today.
- Dr. Amit Chatterjee proposed:
- That a monument be set up at a prime location of the city to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee Year of Loyola School.
- That the present Fasy Auditorium be upgraded with air-conditioning.
He further said that since Loyola was set up on the invitation by the steel company and that since the School's Diamond Jubilee is coinciding with the company's Centenary, we should explore if these projects could be executed jointly. Treasurer’s Report: - Mr. Pratim Banerjee gave an overview of the cash flow / fund flow position of LAA for the period 2005-06.
- Finance Position of LAA from 1st April 2005 to 30th March 2006.
Receipts: 2,73,307. Expenditure: 2,43,001. Fixed Deposit: 75,000. - Membership Addition:
43 Members joined from 1st April 2005 to 30th March 06 (2006 batch = 19, & previous batches = 24 Members) - The response to the Saturday Clinic sponsorship programme, undertaken since January 2006, was extremely encouraging. Mr. G. Sabapathy was the first donor. The list of donors include Mr. K. Vaidyanath (1967 batch) of Kolkata Chapter (4 weeks), Batch of 78 - Delhi (7 weeks) and Mr. P.K Ramachandran (1974 Batch) of Chennai (4 weeks). Jamshedpur Loyoleans - Mr. Subhabrata Banerjee (8 weeks), Mr. Ravi Parikh (4 weeks), Adesra Family (4 weeks), Late Mr. Charanjit Singh Bhatia (2 weeks), Mr. Ratan Agarwal, Mr. Rajesh Patel Mr. Jayesh Amin Mr. Rajiv Talwar Mr. Rajiv Singh, Mr. Sanjay Taunk & Mr. Sailesh Velani (1 week each).
- LAA thanks Mr. Ranaveer Sinha and Mr. Bailey Bodhanwalla for sponsoring one outdoor medical camp each. Special thanks was extended to Mr. Sudhir Amin and Mr. P. N. Shangari for all their technical support and guidance in accounting and taxation matters, Mr. Arnab Banerjee and Mr. Rajiv Agarwal for Clinic and Camps, and Mr. Fasel Pall for sustained support.
- LAA Re-registration under Jharkhand Government is in process.
- Renewal of IT 80G and submission of IT return (2005-06) have been initiated.
