Tepasai village is about 165 kms from Jamshedpur, beyond Chaibasa. The closest hospital is more than 25 kms away. The tribals of Tepasai have no local access to doctors or modern medicine. The Loyola Alumni Association holds 2 medical camps a year at Tepasai, treating on an average a 1000 patients on each occasion. A common ailment among the rural male is hydrocele and hernia, something that we cannot take care of during the one day camps for the want of adequate facilities on location.

On January 27, 2008, we organised a Surgical Camp for hydrocele / hernia patients from Tepasai at the Family Planning Centre, Dhatkidih, Jamshedpur.

Though we had planned for 30 patients, many could not come due to bad weather. The operating team of doctors, largely from Tata Main Hospital (TMH), headed by Dr. M N Bhat, Ex-CMO, TMH performed the surgery. The hernia patients were operated at the Sinha Nursing Home, Mango.

The patients were housed at Loyola School for 3 days for post operative care. They came back on February 9, 2008 for renewal of the stitches and a final examination by doctors.

Besides the services of the doctors, nurses, supporting staff and volunteers, the 2 operating theatres at Family Initiatives Centre and Sinha Nursing Home were provided to us for free.  Expenses were incurred on medical equipment / consumables and medicines were sponsored by International Auto Ltd and other donors.

LAA is constantly looking for donors for our medical camps. If you would like to sponsor a camp in full / part, please contact us
