Minutes of the 17th Annual General Meeting of Loyola Alumni Association held on 17th December 2005, at the Fasy Auditorium. Attended: 105 members, 30 invitee teachers, and volunteer doctors. President Fr. Augustine Vattamattam: Gave a warm welcome to all the attending members, their spouses and invitees. He also thanked all the senior teachers who came for the meeting. Special mention was made of Mr. Arrow Sinha Roy – an ex-Loyolean (1957 batch), who came from Mumbai. Secretary, Dr. Dinesh Upadhyaya's Report: - Regular Saturday Free Clinic being held uninterrupted every week. Our Saturday Free Clinic patients have increased since last year. Last year, the average per week was 100 to 150 patients but now 150 to 200 patients attend every week.
- Health Camps
- One hydrocele camp held at Centre for Family Initiative, Dhatkidih on 17th July 2005, 16 patients were successfully operated by our Doctors. Free Medicines and food was also provided by LAA.
- Health Camps were held at Jhilling , Dhalbhumgrah, Rengra, Parvati Ghat & XITE Gamaharia.
- Jhilling Camp was an emergency camp because of a viral epidemic and Dengue scare. Nearly 50 Loyola Jhilling Students were examined by our doctors and given free medicines.
- Dhalbhumgarh Camp held on 17th September 2005. About 680 patients were examined by our doctors and free medicines dispensed.
- Rengra Camp held on 23rd October 2005. Rengra (Tonto Block). Appox.140 K.M. from Jamshedpur . Our doctors, pharmacists and volunteers departed at 5.30 o'clock in the morning and came back 7 o'clock in the evening. Nearly 500 patients were examined by our doctors and provided free medicines.
- Parvati Ghat Camp near Kharkai Bridge was held on 13th November 2005. This camp was especially for children. Nearly 156 children and 32 adult patients were examined by our doctors and given free medicines to the patients. Mr. Maher Madan, an Ex-Loyolean who runs the school has a very big contribution and participation to help poor people & for the human service extended, all year round.
- Camp at XITE Gamahria on 4th December 2005 : This was a small camp and was mainly for the XITE students. Nearly 120 Students were examined and free medicines provided by LAA.
Dr Upadhyaya thanked the Doctors, Pharmacists and volunteers, who participated in the above mentioned camps and made them a success. - Community Services: Visit of 85 ( Eighty Five) Hazaribag School Students from 11 to 13 November 2005.
- The Directory is being updated under the guidance of Dr. Surajit De & Mr. Rajiv Talwar. Fresh Forms are being circulated to the members for updated personal details. The directory is expected to be ready before the next AGM.
Future Plans: - Mr. Charanjit Singh Bhatia, Ronny Ducats, Bailey Bodhanwalla & Dr. M.N. Bhatt to undertake career counseling for the high school Students.
- Mentoring for students 8 onwards was discussed and proposed to commence it from the 2nd week of January.
- Consideration for imparting vocational training for the under privileged youngsters is being previewed and hope to take it up in the year 2006.
Dr. Upadhyaya thanked Mr. Sudhir Amin, Pran Shaghari, Sharad Singh, Arnab Banerjee for their subjective contribution and all Executive members specially Dr. Surajit Dey, and Dr. K.P.Dubey for the special support extended & Nilesh Raj for managing the LAA's Office. Treasurer, Mr. Pratim Banerjee's Report: - Special thanks was extended to Mr. P. N. Shangari for enabling LAA to get the Tax Exemption under 80G.
- Finance Position of LAA from 1st April to 30th November.
- Earning: 1,91,661.00
- Expenditure: 1,36,734.50
- Fixed Deposit: 75,000.00
- Membership Addition: 31 Members join from 1st April to 30th November. (Pass-out 12th = 19 & Old Pass-out = 12 )
- A new fund raising scheme for Saturday Free Clinic was proposed by the Treasurer. By this scheme, the running cost of the Saturday Free Clinic is to be offset by the sponsorship scheme. It was proposed to seek Rs. 1,500/= for sponsoring each week of Saturday Free Clinic. The appeal was made to all attending members and requested the members to spread the details. There was an instant heartwarming response, the first being Mr. G. Sabapathy – the senior most Alumni member.
Bailey Bodhanwalla thanked all the attending members, their families and guests for being a part of the Loyola Alumni Association which provided yeoman services through the free Clinic, Camps & Community Development programme. He proposed LAA to take up some relevant projects with Loyola Project School and asked the Association to divert in other avenues of service for a larger impact to the under-privileged society. He stressed upon the vocational training project. A special power point presentation was made by Mr. Arrow Sinha Roy. It was nostalgia all the way. Down memory lane were old pictures of the school and faculty members. His presentation also showed the Loyola old boys in the States, who were doing very well. The LAA is proud of them all. Vote for Thanks Dr. M.N. Bhatt thanked everyone for coming for the meeting and specially Dr. Pandey & Fr. Hess the senior most of Loyola School and all the respected teachers He appreciated the career counseling and mentoring programme and expressed his firm hope that it would have a positive impact to all concerned. With the announcement of the tentative date of the AGM being Saturday, 29th April 2006, the meeting was all to an end. The fellowship and happy hours session was initiated, followed by dinner. Fr.
